I don’t have any weddings to attend this year….  you?

I helped a gentlemen today who had 4 weddings to attend this Summer as well as his daughter’s Baptism.  He came in looking for a few shirt & tie combinations… and possibly a new suit.  He was most concerned about looking great for his “little angel” on the day of her baptism.  He knew exactly what he wanted his look to say, and so it was easy to put some very beautiful looks together.  Of all the looks, this was our favorite.  The light grey slim fitting Dirk Bikkembergs Suit is matched up with a Caliban shirt and Altea tie to create a soft elegant look for his special occasion.  The suit shirt and tie are all made in Italy.  Together we decided that this was the perfect look for his daughters baptism.

It’s that time of year again!  I had three wedding parties in the store this week, and while they all had some idea as to what they were looking for, they were also very interested in what I thought was most appropriate. And so I decided to share some insights as to things to consider and avoid when searching for the perfect wedding look.

In my opinion, one of the most important considerations is how “timeless” the look is.  Fashion is constantly changing; from bell bottoms to baggy pants and now the return of slim pants.  While it may be “funny” to look back at your wedding pictures to see the powder blue suit, bell bottoms and ruffled shirt, I believe something more timeless guarantees you’ll be more likely to enjoy the photos from your special day when you’re looking back on them.  That being said, I still feel it is important to be fashionable.  For example, today’s wedding suit should sport a slimmer pant, smaller lapel and a more tailored suit in general. I would caution against a super short jacket which although it is very fashionable now, may not be as timeless.

This white on white look is as timeless as they come.  Feel free to add the white satin vest if you like.  I’m always asked what’s my favorite wedding look, and while I like many different looks, this is my favorite.

It’s the week before Valentines Day, and I’m happy to see that more and more men are realizing that dressing well for their partner is important.  I’ve had a couple customers come in, looking for a sharp outfit to impress their Valentine.  As one of them described it; ” you have to put your best worm on the hook”.  Whether you’re married, engaged or courting the woman of your dreams, it really is important to look your best.  Shabby looking jeans, your favorite sports jersey and baseball cap may be cool when hanging out with the guys, but trust me, it’s not what she’s looking for.   You don’t need to be wearing a tuxedo, or even a suit.  A nice fitting pair of pants or jeans with an interesting shirt and sweater or sport jacket, if put together properly, will definitely get her attention.  This Valentines Day, don’t forget to put your best worm on the hook, and if you’re not completely sure what that means, come see us, we’d love to help.

We are having spring like temperatures in February, and our spring collections are arriving in store. Usually it feels strange talking about spring clothes in February; not this year. Motorcycles are out, and it really feels like Toronto will effortlessly ease into a beautiful spring and event-filled summer (if you believe Wiarton Willie the groundhog).  That means Spring and Summer wedding are around the corner and right on cue we’re receiving a great selection of light wool, silk, linen and cotton blend suits.  Pictured below is part of our private label collection; made in Canada, using the highest quality Cerruti fabric from Italy.  The french cuff Caliban shirt, made in Italy, bright Altea tie and coordinated cufflinks make this a great look for the spring.
